This kid kills me every time he does a shoot! Yes, the chicks are hot. Yes-- leather, motorcycles, american flags and nipples are like so on the top of my list as shoot must-haves. But even more than that, it's this old school, i-don't-give-a-fuck, free+spirited underlying all-american energy of a generation that sucks you in. When we first met Skye Singlemann, a crystal-swinging, pole-dancig, hippie love child from Hawaii, we knew right away that we had to do a Stevie Nicks inspired photoshoot with her. It's not just the way she looks, it's her wild child spirit, the way she dances, and her down-for-anything attitude. 
With an Olympus OM-1 from the 1960's with a remote trigger and few old prism filters, our photog Amanda Smith brought Stevie's Crystal Visions to life.

We are always open to working with new photogs - especially when they shoot on film.
Introducing Amanda Smith: a self-taught city-dwelling hippie badass, born + raised in Houston TX.
She shoots with an Olympus OM-1 from the 1960s with a remote trigger + experiments with old film processing techniques + prism filters. We started out with some early morning bloody mary's and a few good records - fleetwood mac, the flying burrito brothers, creedance + bob dylan to get us in the mood. Our model Skye Sengelmann, a pole-dancing, hippie love child, from hawaii took over the shoot, rocked out + flashed us just enough nip to keep you wanting more. We shot until dusk and called it a wrap.

i just watched Pearl Jam 20 and it blew me away. i was in the grunge scene back in the day, but was trapped in the midwest at the time. i saw them play live only once. on mushrooms. in the mosh pit. outside. lost both my shoes. it was amazing. this band helped shape the look and feel of not only the music of the times, but of the entire movement itself. formed out of the surviving members of Mother Love Bone, and a surfer from San Diego who sent them a demo tape with his phone number written on it in magic marker---these guys took off and never looked back. still around today, and still feeling just as stoked as they did when they played their first show.

Went surfing with a couple of chicks about a month ago. Stormy seas, but sunny skies led to a short session and a sixer on the beach. The stories i took away from that day have stuck with me ever since. These were the girls who traded in the VW Westie that their dad bought them at some junkyard in Colorado for a 1960's slope-backed tour bus with a fanged-nun on the side that had painted on it, "we do what we want" It was an omen. They took the plates off the Westie, attached them to the bus and took off for Dead Tour.... A couple of acid trippin, fun lovin, go-where-the-day-takes-you groupie babes. These were the girls who met the band, stole the backstage pass, skirted the law, danced til dawn, jumped the train, crossed the border, fell in love and never looked back.

These were the girls of the Grateful Dead.

Surfing in the NW is gnarly, man. You have to bundle up - drive forever, pray for sun and good surf conditions....but when it all happens - it's magical. A 90 minute drive each way to the nearest break turns a surf session into a whole day's trip. They call it Smuggler's Cove. A tucked away sandy beach with a 1/2 mile hike thru old growth forrest, dripping ferns, a rushing creek and a swinging bridge. Shoulder high sun-spattered lefts and rights made my 3 & a half hour session one to be remembered.

Just wanted to pay a little homage to Lauren- who came into the shoot feeling a bit under the weather, completely nailed it - and ended up spending the whole next day in the ER. Discovered this guy on my last trip to Venice Beach on a quick stop during the craziness of Fall Fashion Week. We ducked out early - in search of Topanga Canyon, Malibu Point and some killer surf. When we stopped for some much needed vegan fare in Venice, we stumbled into the Mollusk Surf Shop and i fell in love with Jeff Divine. Great work, perfect homage to 1970's surf and style, great eye & awesome book. Proud to say i will be dismantling it carefully with a razor blade to plaster my studio & inspiration board. Ride on.

Picked out some of my favorite shots for this post. Got my lucky cone shell in my pocket that i found on the beach this morning, wearing my favorite tee shirt, and got my fingers crossed.... Chloe, my biz partner-in-crime, and i are launching later today a video that could single-handedly make our dreams come true. You can't deny it. It's undeniable... skaters are just hot. Just did a board graphic for Portland grom, Kincaid Davis. He rides a custom shaped longboard by local shaper Scott at Subsonic Skateboards. It doesn't effect me quite the same way surfing does, but it does a pretty good job at keepin' me moving. Showed Scott some of the other decks i've done and we've decided to work on a collaborative project. Stoked.
